Originally from Michoacan, Mexico; Mar and her three siblings were raised in East Palo Alto by their single mother. Mar’s mother sustained her family from her earnings working at a local small business. Mar is now a first-generation college graduate with a double major in business management and international management from Menlo College and a Master’s Degree in Sociology from San Jose State University.
Mar began her career in the non-profit sector as a Program Director for Catholic Charities. She ran after-school and summer programming for Catholic Charities for ten years, impacting the lives of over 600 youth and families. She and her husband launched a full-service window treatment business during this time, which grew incrementally. In 2018, Mar decided to transition fully to running her family’s business operations and was instrumental in putting systems in place that proved critical for employee retention and revenue during the Pandemic.
Mar is skilled in business operations, development, human resources, budgeting, and bookkeeping. A proud businesswoman, wife, and a dog’s mom, she’s excited to bring her passion for women empowerment, equity, community, minority representation, and leadership to the San Mateo small business community.
