About Me:

Avery’s background combines over 25 years of experience as an executive and board member at large, venture-backed, and strategy consulting companies in the technology industry. He has worked for the largest companies in the world, started companies from a whiteboard, and grown companies from $20M to $360M.

Avery has a strong background in customer success, product management, and business development, with a master’s in computer engineering. Experienced as a CEO or executive in over six startups in digital engineering, cloud computing, and virtualization, with exits to Goldman Sachs, Google, Computer Associates, Red Hat, and others. He was on the founding team of IBM’s x86 server business and ran product management as that business grew from inception to $1.4B. He worked at McKinsey&Co developing growth, go-to-market, and partnering strategies for the world’s largest technology companies.  Most recently, he was Chief Customer Officer with revenue responsibility for existing customers for Apexon (Digital engineering) as that company grew from 200 to 4,000 employees.

Over his career, Avery has also been involved with teaching and non-profits. He is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at Hult International Business School (Principles of Entrepreneurship, Disruptive Innovation, and Sales Management), taught at SJSU, and is a mentor for Founder Institute. He works to support his community. He is on the Belmont Parks&Rec Commission, Regional Commissioner for Belmont/Redwood Shores AYSO, the San Francisco Soccer Football League board, and was Chairman of the Churchill Club.
